Recent I/DD Employment Statistics & Ideas for Growth

A little over a month ago, I attended the Arc's National Council of Executives (NCE) Summer Leadership Institute in Providence, RI.  The learning sessions were phenomonal and the big focus of conversation centered around the change in service and supports that is necessary to comply with CMS's new final rules.

The Justice Department Is Pretty Upset With Virginia For Not Trying Hard Enough to Reform Programs for People with Disabilities

According to a recent article that appeared in the Washington Post, The Justice Department is not pleased with the state of Virginia (or the state of their I/DD programs for that matter.) They say that Virginia is not being serious enough about their efforts to comply with court-ordered reforms to its program for people with disabilities.

New CDC Report Says 1 in 5 Americans Has a Disability. But What Does That Mean?

A new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that one in five American adults is living with at least one kind of disability.

That’s a pretty big statement to make – so it makes sense that some pretty big news outlets (like USA Today and PBS) are reporting on the story.
