According to a national staffing survey MediSked conducted, 93% of respondents identified recruiting quality employees as an issue for their I/DD agency.

Raising Awareness for Mental Health Month This May

Each May, we observe Mental Health Month in the United States. Observance of this month began in 1949 to educate people that mental illnesses were as real as other physical illnesses and show how they could be treated effectively.

This year’s theme is “Into Mental Health: Inspired, Informed, Involved." 1 in 5 adults in the United States lives with a mental health condition, however the topic is highly stigmatized and can result in rejection, bullying and discrimination. Conversations about mental health help to destigmatize mental illnesses and provide support for those who need it. The best treatments for serious mental illnesses today are highly effective; between 70 and 90% of individuals have significant reduction of symptoms and improved quality of life with the right treatments and supports.

Social Enterprises - Creating Employment for Individuals with Disabilities

Many individuals with disabilities must worry about the “disability cliff” when they age out of school. This cliff refers to the loss of structure and coordination of services that students are entitled to in the education systems; instead individuals are expected to navigate an often-confusing delivery system to receive services with little assistance during the transition. One of the key issues is difficulty finding meaningful employment in the community.
