Jason 'J-Mac' McElwain finishes 15th in marathon

Posted by Mike Holihan on Wed, Sep 26, 2012 @ 09:27 AM

A story coming out of Rochester, NY this week is one of inspiration and perseverance. Jason McElwain, who has autism, first grabbed national attention in 2006 as he was inserted into his high school's basketball game and proceeded to score 20 points in just 5 minutes. The highlights of the game quickly caught fire online and in the media, as he was featured on ESPN and even met basketball legend Magic Johnson. This past weekend, J-Mac re-entered the spotlight by running the Rochester marathon at a blazing speed of 3 hours and 1 minute. This was his first ever marathon and he qualified for Boston - a feat that marathon runners strive for and rarely reach in their first marathon! Once again, Jason is redefining the perception of autism to the mainstream public. Congratulations to Jason on this AMAZING achievement and good luck in Boston!
