During the month of April, we celebrate National Autism Awareness Month. This month was created by the Autism Society of America in April of 1970 to promote awareness, acceptance, and inclusion for individuals with autism. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability that affects an individual’s ability to communicate and interact with others. Symptoms often appear in early childhood and recognition of the signs can increase early diagnosis and intervention, which can change lives.

Disability Policy Seminar – The Importance of Telling Your Story

This week, several members of the MediSked team attended the Disability Policy Seminar in Washington, D.C. The seminar was hosted by the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD), The Arc, The Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD), the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD), Self-Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE), and United Cerebral Palsy (UCP). MediSked proudly sponsored the event, which is the premier opportunity to advance the grassroots movement for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Catholic Charities Event Raises Awareness of TBI and Concussions

On Friday, several members of the MediSked team had the pleasure of attending the 6th Annual Catholic Charities Community Services Breakfast with Friends Event. Catholic Charities Community Services (CCCS) supports over 3,000 individuals with developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, chronic illnesses, and HIV/AIDs each year. Proceeds from this inspiring and educational event went to benefit the important work of CCCS.

Each March the country observes National Developmental Disabilities Awareness month. This is an opportunity to celebrate individuals with developmental disabilities, to share their stories, and to show the value that inclusion brings to our communities. This is also a chance to shed light on the obstacles that many people still face and how we can all work together to be more inclusive and accepting.
