Hey California - Want to Provide Better Care for People with Developmental Disabilities & Spend Less? Here's An Idea

Here at MediSked we have a monthly "Current Events Roundtable" meeting - and you're not allowed to show up without recent news to share. 

Inevitably, every month someone references an article or broadcast on California's institutions - and the push for the state to close them. 

On April 7th, a new report on uninvestigated/unpunished crimes against people in California's state hospitals for people with developmental disablities was released. And it wasn't good. In fact, it was incredibly disturbing. 

I won't go into detail - but I will say that the report is titled "13 Deaths Blamed on Abuse and Neglect at California State-Run Homes." (which you can read by clicking on the link.)

4 Online Resources I/DD Providers Should Know

With the legislative and financial landscape of I/DD services in constant flux, it's hard to keep track of the external forces that so often affect your agency.  On our end as a software provider to this space, we operate in states across the country, so it's vital that we are up to date on all of the changes.  Our Research and Compliance organization have the monumental task of monitoring changes in funding, regulations and philosophies.  Some states, like New York are moving to a managed care model of supports, moving away from fee for service and to a capitated rate model.  In the neighboring state of New Jersey, they are doing just the opposite and moving to a fee for service model.  So how do you keep it all straight?
